Is Cloud Backup Service Safe to Use?

Cloud based software and service is widely used all around the world, both businesses and individual users are increasingly using cloud in day to day work. Cloud storage is one such domain that is in particular accepted by end user for a multiple reasons, and the principal one is that it has far greater usability than old fashioned backup methods i.e taking the backup manually on a magnetic tape.

With cloud backup it is very easy to store data in the cloud server automatically by automated application provided by the backup service provider. This application will transfer data from you’re the user laptop/desktop while they are in use, keeping the backups up to date without taking any other activity to accomplish the task of data backup.
This sound to be an extremely easy way as no major efforts is put in from the end user; just that he or she has to check that internet connection is working well and cloud storage backup application is running correctly. Apart from this, user doesn’t have to take any other pain like in the case of manual data backup.

However, many users who are using such technology are concerned about the safety and security of data using such service. I understand that such fears are completely reasonable for a non tech savvy person, as secure cloud backup is a new technology in the market.  All modern day cloud service provider encrypt the data with a strong application such as Blowfish or AES 256 before transmitting the data from user desktop/laptop to their cloud servers. This encryption keys is a big differentiator for the security of the data. Ideal service provider for eg: Docusaver offers a security-and-privacy option in which only user possess the password and have access to the data. This password can’t be accessed hacked and no other person can ever get access to the user data. On the negative side if user lost his or her password, then not even the backup service provider's employees will be able to restore the data. Even if compelled by law enforcement, they won't be able to decrypt the files.

This can be debated that cloud backup services are far more efficient compare to its conventional options; user can access his or her data virtually from anywhere - as long as he or she has an internet connection. Backup files doesn’t take any space on users storage devices as user is renting space on the server rather than paying for your own storage devices. This again can provide convince to the user, as he or she don’t have to invest money for own backup storage devices.
